Good to know
The practical details worth knowing before you commit โ visa type, timeline, and what you can and can't do while studying.
All 1-year and 3-year programs use the X1 visa, for programs longer than 6 months. It's a stronger visa that's easier to extend into further study, scholarships, or other student visa categories.
Your passport needs at least 15-17 months remaining at the time you apply, to comfortably cover the admission process, your entry visa, and the residence permit timeline.
You'll enter on a roughly 30-day visa, which converts into a 1-year residence permit. Once that expires, the next step is a T visa (about 1 month).
Working isn't allowed without an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from your university. You'll apply for this directly with your university or counselor โ it's not something I handle.
You can register a company on an X1 visa, but you cannot legally operate it. Running a company requires leaving China and re-entering on a Z (work) visa.

Advice from someone who's lived it
Before you pick a city, here's what I'd want you to know โ from someone who's actually lived across China, not just read about it.
Smaller cities may look cheaper on tuition, but it's a false economy โ fewer opportunities, fewer connections, weaker infrastructure, and less exposure. Bigger cities give you better access to future university options, career paths, and a real chance to discover what you want to pursue next.
Regions close to Pakistan's border and central China tend to be less developed. The goal of coming to China is to grow and reach your full potential โ not spend the prime years of your life somewhere that doesn't push you forward.
China's climate varies drastically by region, and it matters more than people expect โ especially coming from Pakistan's warmer climate. Some cities swing to dangerous extreme cold (Harbin can hit -32ยฐC โ being outside unprepared for even 10-15 minutes can be genuinely dangerous). Others bring extreme heat and humidity that wears you down over a long stay. Either extreme can affect your mood and day-to-day life for a full year or more.
I've lived across multiple cities in China myself, been through both the X1 and X2 visa processes personally, and registered a company here. This isn't secondhand advice โ it's what I'd tell a friend before they make the same decisions I once made.
Student Testimonials
We've helped 500+ students get admitted to top universities across China. Here are their stories.
Want to be our next success story?
A valid passport (minimum 6 months validity), educational documents (Matric, FSC if available, BS/MS if applicable), your father/guardian's CNIC, a white-background passport photo, and a Police Character Certificate covering from your date of birth to the present.
Only if it's not your own. Using your own bank statement needs no attestation. Using a family member's requires an FRC attested by both MOFA and Apostille.
You'll receive three things in order: a pre-admission letter, then your official admission letter, then your JW document.
Use that time to prepare your visa documents and attestations, so you're ready to apply the moment your JW letter arrives.
All educational documents, your passport (signature page included), a white-background photo, your and your guardian's CNIC, a 2-minute introduction video, and 4 forms signed by both you and your guardian (unsigned forms aren't accepted) โ plus your Police Character Certificate. Combined into a single ZIP.
No โ food isn't provided by the university or college. Students cover their own meals.
No, air travel isn't included in the package โ you'll book your own ticket. I can help you book it though, since it's often cheaper to book from within China.
No โ personal expenses aren't covered by me or the university.
Yes โ turn on international roaming before you travel. Chinese networks won't deliver OTPs or SMS to a foreign SIM that isn't roaming, which can cause real problems if missed.
Yes โ you can apply for the next admission cycle while you're still currently enrolled in your course.
